It’s over, or is it just beginning?
If you missed it, and you’re looking for the numbers, click on the Utah Republican Party Home Page. If you’re looking for a play-by-play of the convention, visit this post at Holly on the Hill. For an interesting analysis of Lt. Governor Gary Herbert’s convention speech, look at this post at Utah Policy dot Com. For a “from the floor” ad hoc survey of Bob Bennett supporters, read this post at David Miller’s Pursuit of Liberty. Another blogged play-by-play can be read on the Republican Legislative District 61’s post entitled Utah Republican State Organizing Convention Results. A somewhat less-than-flattering post from Salt Lake Tribune’s Salt Lake Crawler Blog written by Glen Warchol under the title Repubs eat their own wraps up the significant blogosphere finds. (Remember, blogging content disclaimer from me here. If you go looking at other posts, do so at your own discretion. Sometimes the topics and content can be offensive.)

I am very pleased with the election of Morgan Philpot. I have high hopes for improved transparency in the State Republican Party. In particular, I would like to see an end to the draconian management of candidate-to-delegate and delegate-to-delegate communciations by the outgoing State Party administration.
I don’t use the word “draconian lightly here. If you see an email message I sent to outgoing Party Chairman Stan Lockhart last year about the use of the Constant Contact Email Service, I believe you’ll see why I choose to use that word. (See the email’s content in a post on my Orem 27 Precinct blog at http://or27.wordpress.com/2008/04/10/e-mail-to-utah-state-republican-party-leadership-regarding-centrally-controlled-candidate-delegate-e-mail-communications/).
I’m not advocating identity theft here, folks. But we do need to recognize that Email addresses are the 21st-century equivalent of street addresses–and we actually have to publish those by law!
We can come together and sort out a better disclosure/communications policy than what is currently in place at both the State and Utah County levels.
